Competition

One Day. One Life. Our Period Story
We are calling for participants in a photo series competition for the first menstrual health summit in Nepal.

The theme of the competition is ‘One Day. One Life. Our Period Story’

What are we looking for?

We are looking for two original and creative pictures, which can be a photograph, illustration or drawing, that showcase a typical day in the life of a girl on her period in Nepal. The photo series will follow on from the ‘Life In A Day’ film, which is a historic film that follows people’s daily lives around the world on 24 July 2010.

Present

The first picture: We want you to capture how your subject experiences her period on a regular day. What happens to her from when she wakes up to going to sleep? What is different about her life during her period, what does she experience that the world doesn’t see and how does this impact on her life? Your picture should capture the daily processes that she goes through: e.g., what she eats, where she sleeps, how she disposes of her menstrual products. Perhaps this picture will depict the restrictions that she faces on a typical day during her period and how this makes her feel. Does she feel unable to participate in sports, or go to school or go to the temple? We want you to picture it!

Future

The second picture: The second picture will depict what her dream period would look like – what she imagines her future period story to be like in 10 years. Which menstruation products will she be using in the future? Are there things that she feels unable to do during her period now that she will be able to do in the future? This picture will imagine what periods should be like for girls in the future, and how girls can and should feel empowered when having their period.

How many pictures can you send?

1 picture on the ‘Present’
1 picture on the ‘Future’

What will you win?

Winners will have the opportunity to attend the first MenstruAction Summit at the Yak and Yeti Hotel in Kathmandu in Nepal; runners up and winners will have their pictures exhibited at the Summit.
